Amsterdam police have seized a server belonging to Autistici/Inventati (A/I), a dissolved hacker network that provided online services and support to left-wing political groups. The US says this included Antifa, which the Trump administration has designated a terror organisation.

The server, located at the Science Park in the east of the city, was taken without any public announcement by local police. A spokesperson told NRC that an image of the server would go “straight to America”.

Trade association Dutch Cloud Community has demanded clarity over why the police agreed to the US’ demand. The public prosecution department has also made no official statement about the incident.

Politicians have also expressed dismay over the seizure. MP Barbara Kathmann, of opposition party PRO, told the Volkskrant it “sets a dangerous precedent”.

In September, after A/I shut down its services, Kathmann and D66 MP Sarah El Boujdaini warned in a letter to parliament that the US could paralyse European internet providers for political purposes.

Similar fears have arisen over the potential acquisition of Solvinity, the cloud provider that hosts Dutch government services like DigiD, by an American company.
