Inflation rate rose slightly in August

New numbers from the Dutch statistics agency CBS show  the inflation rate rose slightly in August.

The preliminary estimate from the Central Agency for Statistics shows a 0.1% rise from August, putting September’s inflation rate at 3.4%.

The final numbers will be released on October 13.

Fuel and energy prices account for most of the increase. The cost of petrol and gas for heating is was up 13.9% in September over the same month the year before.

Grocery prices, however, have dropped slightly for the second month in a row. Food staples were down 1.3% over the year before, after dropping 0.5% in August.
