Student who made Hitler salute at TU Eindhoven has left NL

The public prosecution service has said it will not investigate an incident involving a Hitler salute during a lecture at TU Eindhoven after the student voluntarily left the country.

According to the university, a during a first year calculus class, the student made racist remarks in the packed lecture hall and performed a Nazi salute. Fellow students intervened, resulting in a fight.

The university executive board said in a statement that the behaviour was “unacceptable” and it was investigating.

The student was later arrested on suspicion of threatening behaviour, but prosecutors dropped the case because he was deemed to be “vulnerable”.

Following talks with the student and his father, the youth, who turned 18 this month, choose to leave the Netherlands, the public prosecution service said. They would not disclose his country of origin.
