Three-quarters of the country took a summer holiday in 2025, according to research by the Dutch statistics office CBS.

Figures from the CBS Holiday Survey show that, between April and October, 10.8 million people in the Netherlands took 21.9 million vacation days.

Just over half of those days (12.9 million) were spent abroad, with the remaining 9 million days being enjoyed withing the Netherlands.

France was the most popular, with the Dutch using 2.2 million days camping and eating baguettes, followed by Germany and Spain.

Outside of Europe, Turkey, the United States, and Indonesia are the most visited destinations.

Withing the country, Gelderland is the most popular destination, followed by North Holland, North Brabant, Limburg, and Overijssel.

Income plays a role in the frequency of holidays. Among high earners, nearly 90% enjoy a summer holiday, while only 41% of lower incomes do.
