With Iran targeting US allies in the Middle East in response to American attacks, the Dutch government has advised against travelling to Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates – which includes the popular holiday destination of Dubai – unless absolutely necessary.
That falls under the ministry’s orange travel advisory, which discourages all travel unless there’s an emergency, such as the death of a family member.
The travel advice for Bahrain has moved up to red, meaning the ministry says the Dutch embassy cannot offer help. “Whatever your situation is, don’t travel there,” the ministry said. “It’s too dangerous.”
The US, UK, Canada and Australia have also updated their travel alerts for Gulf countries in recent days.
