Arne Slot rules himself out as next Netherlands head coach

Former Liverpool and Feyenoord coach Arne Slot has ruled himself out as the next manager of the Dutch men’s national team, saying he wants to keep working in club football.

The 47-year-old was one of the names put forward to succeed Ronald Koeman, who resigned after the Netherlands were knocked out of the World Cup by Morocco in the round of 32.

Slot has also been courted by AC Milan and English Premier League side Fulham since he was sacked by Liverpool at the end of May after two seasons in charge.

The Dutchman, who arrived after steering Feyenoord to only their second Eredivisie title since the turn of the century, won the Premier League in his first season but could only manage fifth place last term.

The Dutch football association KNVB wants to appoint a manager well ahead of the next UEFA Nations League match against Germany on September 24.

Two other potential successors have also dropped out of the running. PSV manager Peter Bosz has extended his contract at the Eindhoven club, while former Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag recently joined his home town club Twente Enschede as director of football and has said he wants to continue in that role.
