The minority coalition government has reached an agreement with the GroenLinks-PvdA alliance to spend an extra €328 million in development aid this year.

That means there is enough support for the measure to win approval in the senate, news website Nu.nl reported on Wednesday evening.

According to news agency ANP, an additional €52 million has also been allocated to the emergency aid budget.

Aid minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma had faced problems in winning enough senate support for the plan, which the pro-farming BBB refused to back in the upper house.  GroenLinks-PvdA reportedly agreed to side with the government, if more money was set aside for disaster and other emergency relief.

MPs will debate the aid budget later on Thursday.
