The KNMI weather bureau has issued a nationwide code yellow weather warning for Saturday afternoon and evening, saying thunderstorms are set to sweep across the country.

The storms will be accompanied by heavy rain and hail at times, and gusts of wind of up to 70 kph, the KNMI said.

Friday is set to see the last of the sunny weather, with temperatures rising to 22° in the Wadden Sea area to as much as 27° in the south of the country.

Cloud cover will begin to build up in the evening and there could be some showers overnight, possibly with thunder. On Saturday it will be warm, but cloudy with storms later in the day.

Sunday will be warm with some sunshine but an 80% chance of rain. The rest of the week will be cooler with some sunshine and cloud, and temperatures dropping to the mid teens, which is below average for the time of year.
