Statistical agency services down over server outage

A server disruption has taken out a number of services of the Dutch statistics agency CBS, including making a large amount of the organisation’s data inaccessible.
In a statement, CBS said there was no impact “on the security of our systems and data” but a number of other functions were offline.
The StatLine database is inaccessible, CBS microdata environment is not available, it is not possible to upload and download data files and telephone/email services have also been interrupted.
The agency has been dealing with ongoing technical issues after a massive fire at a data center in Almere last week.
The fire at NorthC Datacenters’ site on the Sallandsekant industrial estate broke out in a utility room at the rear of the building, where the emergency power supply, cooling systems and diesel-fuelled backup generators are housed.
The damage shut Utrecht University, took several GP practices and pharmacies across the country offline and transport operator Transdev also reported outages.
The agency said it is not clear how long the outage would last.
