Indian prime minister meets with Jetten on state visit

Indian prime minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a two-day state visit to the Netherlands on Sunday, after meeting with Dutch prime minister Rob Jetten and king Willem-Alexander.
Modi kicked off a European tour in The Hague, where he said he was “deeply touched by the immense enthusiasm and affection of the Indian community” in the city.
He was greeted by a cheering crowd of Indian diaspora, holding the green, white and orange flag at the World Forum. The Netherlands is home to some 250,000 Indian nationals.
Modi is on a multi-day visit to the continent that will also include Sweden and Italy.
The leader was hosted by king Willem-Alexander and queen Máxima at the Huis ten Bosch Palace for dinner on Saturday evening, along with several top Dutch business executives.
Dutch chip maker ASML announced on Saturday they signed deal with India’s Tata Electronics to build a semiconductor plant in the western state of Gujarat.
In a statement, the Eindhoven-based tech giant said the move was part of a strategy to “develop partnerships across the entire semiconductor ecosystem.”
The Netherlands is one of India’s largest European trading partners.
Modi also met with Jetten ahead of the dinner to discuss the countries’ security interests. On Sunday, the two leaders visited the iconic Afsluitdijk and discussed water management practices.
