A man who killed three Rotterdam men in random attacks in the city district of IJsselmonde has been jailed for 14 years, to be followed by psychiatric detention.

The public prosecution department had called for a 20-year jail term for Sendric S, who said in court that a “friendly man’s voice” had forced him to carry out the killings.

The court said it accepted that S, who is 25, had heard a voice, but said it believed “despite your illness, that you could decide yourself what to do.” The court was told by experts that S has schizophrenia, slight mental disabilities, and an addiction to cannabis.

S shot the three men in the back at the end of 2024 and in early 2025. His first victim, a 63-year-old man, was shot on December 21, and the second man, who was 58, a week later. On January 2, he killed a third man, who was 81.

S was also found guilty of stabbing a man in the centre of Rotterdam several times in June 2024. His victim survived the attack.

He was arrested shortly after the third killing at his father’s home.
