The Jumbo supermarket group has launched an investigation after three customers in different parts of the country apparently found dead mice in packets of frozen green beans.

The company withdrew the entire stock of its own label beans from sale after the first two reports, and on Thursday a third customer came forward.

“We are taking these reports very seriously and have contacted the customer to apologise and pick up the beans,” a Jumbo spokesman told the news website Nu.nl.

The supermarket chain and its supplier are investigating how the mice got in among the beans.  Customers who have bags of frozen green beans in their freezers “should check them or return them if they are not sure about them,” the spokesman said.

One of the finders was cooking an Indonesian meal when he spotted “a grey clump” which turned out to be a mouse, he told NU.nl. “And it was not a small one,” he said.
