Pride and traveler culture may make it to Unesco’s heritage list

Pride Amsterdam and traveler culture (woonwagencultuur) are among five Dutch traditions that could be added to Unesco’s list of intangible cultural heritage.
The selection, made by Dutch cultural council Raad voor Cultuur, also includes the Leidens Ontzet celebrations, the craft of hedge laying and the oompah band.
Unesco has already approved five cultural events and crafts for inclusion on its global listings: the Rotterdam summer carnival, traditional irrigation techniques, flower parade culture, falconry and milling.
All five new suggestions are part of the Netherlands’ own cultural heritage listing, which now has some 400 entries.
Culture minister Rianne Letschert will make the final selection for submission to the Unesco committee this month.
