Petrol prices rise as conflict in the Middle East continues

The price of a litre of petrol in the Netherlands has risen to an all-time high of €2.51, according to energy company United Consumers.
The previous record of €2.505 was set in 2022, when gas prices shot up following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Iran has blocked the critical Strait of Hormuz in response to attacks by the United States and Israel. Some 20% of the world’s oil supply usually flows through the strategic choke point.
The international oil benchmark Brent crude is up by almost 50% since the conflict started at the end of February.
In a letter to parliament on Monday, the government said it did not expect the country to suffer an energy crisis as there are no acute shortages.
