Mild weather continues but Saharan sand is on its way

The mild spring weather will continue in the coming days, although the sky will become less clear as high cloud and Saharan dust move over the Netherlands.

The dust was lifted by a large low-pressure system that developed over Morocco several days ago and has been moving slowly northwards. It is set to reach the Netherlands on Friday, creating a brownish haze and more colourful sunrises and sunsets.

Sunshine will still break through the thin cloud, particularly on Friday and Sunday, and winds will remain light. Temperatures inland are expected to reach between 15° and 19° over the next few days.

Near the coast it will be slightly cooler and night-time temperatures will remain relatively chilly, with lows of between 2° and 5°.

Typical daytime highs in early spring are around 9° or 10°, with night-time temperatures usually falling to about 2° or 3°. Forecasters say the warmer-than-average conditions – which have set warm weather records for four days in a row – could last for yet another week.
