A substitute assistant at a daycare centre in Amsterdam has been arrested for child sexual abuse and the possession of child pornography, the public prosecution department said on Monday.

The man, who is 66 and comes from Almere, was arrested last November after the father of a two-year-old girl made a complaint about him. The incident happened on the man’s first day of work.

He is also accused of making pornographic photographs of two other children – a baby and a three-year-old boy – and taking nude photographs of nine others.

The man is also accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy in January 2024, who is thought to come from Almere.

There are no indications that others were involved or that he spread the photographs online, the public prosecution department said in a statement.

The man has been held in custody since his arrest and will appear in court on March 11.

According to the Telegraaf, the man, which it named as Jan B, was a former Almere city council for 50Plus but stood down in February 2025.
