AZ will line up against NEC in KNVB Cup final in April

AZ of Alkmaar has reached the final of the KNVB Cup for the second year in a row, thanks to two own goals by semi-final opponents Telstar.
AZ won the match 2-1 and will now meet NEC in the final on April 19. NEC put out PSV on Wednesday, ending the Eindhoven side’s hopes of a treble.
“I’m very happy for the players that they get the opportunity to win something again,” coach Leeroy Echteld told reporters after the match. “And personally it is great that we have made it.”
For AZ, a disappointing sixth in the Eredivisie, everything now revolves around the KNVB Cup, because the trophy is the shortest route to European football. Winning the cup gives direct access to the Europa League group stage.
Telstar is currently seventeenth in the Dutch top flight league and therefore in acute danger of relegation, after returning to the Eredivisie this season for the first time in 47 years.
AZ have won the cup four times, but have also lost four finals, including last year, when Go Ahead Eagles won after an equaliser in the 99th minute and a penalty shoot-out.
