Volendam shock PSV in weekend of late goals in Eredivisie

A late winner by Aurelio Oehlers earned Volendam a dramatic win against Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven to inflict only the second league defeat on Peter Bosz’s side this season.
Volendam took the lead midway through the second half with a goal worthy of winning any match by 19-year-old Robin van Cruijsen, who hit a thundering volley in off the underside of the crossbar.
Denis Man cut inside from the right to equalise for PSV eight minutes from time, but as the leaders pressed for a winner Oehlers broke away and slipped the ball coolly underneath goalkeeper Nick Schicks.
Feyenoord needed an injury-time penalty against Go Ahead Eagles to trim PSV’s lead to 14 points and cap a week in which manager Robin van Persie secured the signature of former Liverpool and Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling.
The visitors looked to be hanging on for a point despite playing most of the match with 10 men, following the dismissal of Thibo Baeten for a clumsy challenge in the 14th minute.
But with seconds left Evert Linthorst caught the foot of Casper Tengstedt while trying to clear the ball, and the Danish striker got up to put away the spot-kick.
Ajax cruising
Ajax moved up to third place as they cruised past Fortuna Sittard, scoring three goals in the opening 25 minutes thanks to Belgian trio Jorthy Mokio, Rayane Bounida and Mika Godts.
Godts fired in a fourth late in the second half, but there was a setback for the Amsterdammers as January signing Oleksandr Zinchenko was taken off after two minutes with a knee injury.
A penalty by Clint Leemans 10 minutes from time was enough for NAC Breda to win a relegation six-pointer at Heracles, who replace their opponents at the bottom of the table.
Telstar dropped to second bottom after sharing the points with fellow draw specialists Twente Enschede. Sem van Duijn gave Telstar an early lead as he finished off a breakaway move, but Marko Pjaca headed in from close range to equalise eight minutes from time.
Heerenveen looked set for a punishing afternoon in Friesland as PEC Zwolle went two up in the opening 15 minutes with a tap-in by Younes Namli and a rocket from the right boot of Tristan Gooijer.
But Maxence Rivera’s well-placed shot gave them hope before half time and on-loan striker Lasse Nordas levelled the scores shortly afterwards, before Ringo Meerveld found the top corner with a long-range strike to turn the match around and Eser Gürbüz bagged a late fourth.
Utrecht break streak
Utrecht staged a late comeback at Groningen to claim their first league win in 10 matches. Younes Taha put the home side ahead early in the second half with what was Groningen’s first shot on target.
The visitors, who had missed several good chances in the first half, equalised when Dani de Wit took down a pass on his chest and finished calmly, before new signing Jesper Karlsson found space in a crowded penalty area to net the winner.
The most dramatic turnaround came at Excelsior, who were leading AZ Alkmaar as the clock ticked past 90 minutes, but ended with nothing as Troy Parrott equalised with a deflected shot before Alexandre Penetra headed in the winner in the sixth minute of injury time.
Sparta’s match against NEC Nijmegen kicked off in heavy snow and had to be abandoned in the seventh minute after referee Jannick van der Laan deemed the pitch unplayable.
NEC will have the chance to overtake Ajax and close within a point of Feyenoord when the remaining 83 minutes are played on Tuesday evening.
