Three in five Dutch employees can actually work from home

Around 80% of companies in the Netherlands allowed employees to work remotely in 2025, with just over 60% of workers able to make use of the option in practice, new figures from national statistics agency CBS show.
The share has barely changed since 2022, after years of rapid growth during the coronavirus pandemic.
The CBS says remote working – defined as access to company documents or software outside the workplace – grew strongly in the decade before the coronavirus pandemic and peaked during it.
In 2012, 59% of companies offered the option. That rose steadily to 83% in 2021, before levelling off at around 80% in the years that followed.
The CBS said the scope for working remotely depends heavily on the type of work. In the property rental and real estate trading sector, 98% of companies support remote working, with 90% of employees able to do so. High levels are also seen in IT and financial services, where around 95% of firms allow it.
Company size also plays a role. Smaller firms are less likely to offer remote working than larger ones. Among companies with 10 to 50 employees, 76% make it possible, compared with 96% of firms with more than 250 staff.
