Silver for the Dutch women in skating team pursuit

The Dutch women’s team pursuit squad have won the silver medal at the Milan Olympics, coming second to Canada in Tuesday’s final. The bronze went to Japan.

Joy Beune, Marijke Groenewoud and Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong crossed the finishing line a second behind the reigning Olympic champions.  The Netherlands, as world title holders, had been one of the favourites for the title.

In the men’s team pursuit event, the Dutch team were beaten by China in the play-off for the bronze medal. France beat the US to win gold.

Dutch short-track skaters are in action again on Wednesday with the men’s 500 metres and women’s 3,000 relay.

Jens van ‘t Wout, gold winner in the men’s 1000m and 1500m is a favourite in the men’s event, while the Dutch women take on South Korea, Canada and Italy in the relay.
