Schiphol airport scrapped 100 flights on Thursday morning as snow and ice were forecast for central parts of the Netherlands.

The cancellations mostly affected European short-haul destinations such as the UK, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia.

Dutch meteorological agency KNMI issued yellow warnings for seven provinces, including Noord-Holland, where up to 3cm is expected to fall. Snow and ice are also expected to affect roads in southern and central regions.

The snow is expected to turn to rain as temperatures rise in the afternoon, before warmer weather moves in at the weekend.
