PSV punish Feyenoord errors to take 17-point lead in Eredivisie

PSV stretched their lead in the Eredivisie to 17 points as Feyenoord hit the self-destruction button in the first 20 minutes of a one-sided clash in Eindhoven.
Armando Obispo nipped in ahead of Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther to head in Joey Veerman’s free-kick and put Peter Bosz’s side in front after just 10 minutes.
Worse was to follow two minutes later as Wellenreuther tried to cut out Mauro Junior’s high cross, but only succeeded in tipping the ball to the feet of a grateful Guus Til.
And the match was over as a contest after 17 minutes when Anas Hadji Moussa’s pass into his own penalty was easily cut out by Paul Wanner, who laid the ball off for Ismael Saibari to stroke in a third.
PSV took their foot off the gas after that, although only a flying save by Wellenreuther stopped Saibari adding a fourth after half an hour.
Feyenoord finished the match with 10 men when Goncalo Borges received a second booking for a late challenge on Couhaib Driouech.
Van Persie: “unworthy”
Bosz said he was “hugely” proud of his players for the way they responded to going out of the Champions League with defeat at Bayern Munich in midweek.
Feyenoord coach Robin van Persie dismissed questions about his future, but said he took responsibility for the team’s disappointing performance.
“You can lose matches, but the way we played in the first half is unworthy of Feyenoord and that was the hardest thing for me to take,” he said.
NEC moved up to third place on goal difference with a 3-1 win at AZ, after Ajax surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw against Excelsior.
NEC raced into a two-goal lead in Alkmaar as Tjaronn Chery and Basar Önal struck within 71 seconds of each other.
Troy Parrott brought AZ back into the match near the end of the first half, but seven minutes after the break Kodai Sano hit a swerving shot with the outside of his boot to secure the points.
Ajax crumble
Ajax looked to be on course for a routine win at Excelsior when Mika Godts scored twice in the first half, the first following some neat interplay with Davy Klaassen and Rayane Bounida.
But Excelsior turned the match on its head in five second-half minutes as Miliano Jonathans was allowed a free header before left-back Arthur Zagré sprung the offside trap and smashed in an equaliser off the underside of the crossbar.
Heracles moved off the bottom of the table with their first win since Ernest Faber took over as coach in November, with goalkeeper Remko Pasveer going straight into the team against Fortuna Sittard after signing from Ajax.
Australian midfielder Adjin Hrustic gave Heracles the lead after 26 minutes, but Kaj Sierhuis replied with a header shortly afterwards.
But Heracles went ahead again just before the break when Alec Van Hoorenbeeck bundled in what turned out to be the winner.
Telstar slide
Telstar replaced them at the bottom following a 4-1 defeat at PEC, who went ahead just before the half-time whistle with Shola Shoretire’s fourth goal in as many games.
Telstar drew level after the break when Nils Rossen put away a rebound, but two goals in three minutes by Koen Kostons and Tristan Gooijer settled the contest before Kostons added a late fourth.
NAC came back from two goals down to earn a draw against Twente that keeps them above Telstar on goal difference.
Charles-Andreas Brym had a hand in both NAC’s goals, scoring the first before hitting a late shot that rebounded to Moussa Soumano for the equaliser.
Utrecht’s woes continued as they extended their winless run to eight matches with a 1-1 draw at Heerenveen.
New signing Jesper Karlsson made an instant impact for Utrecht as he headed in the equaliser early in the second half, after Jacob Trenskow had given the Frisians the lead.
Sparta beat Groningen with a brace from Shunsuke Mito to record their first five-match winning streak in 53 years and overtake their opponents to go fifth in the table.
