Jens van ’t Wout has picked up another Dutch gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Milan, this time in the short-track 1,500 metres.

Van ’t Wout took the lead with five laps to go and did not relinquish it, sealing what the Dutch media described as a “sensational” victory. The silver went to South Korea’s Hwang Dae-heon and the bronze to Roberts Kruzbergs of Lithuania. Favourite and reigning world champion William Dandjinou finished fifth.

Van ’t Wout’s second gold moved the Netherlands into seventh place in the medals table. He will be in action again in the men’s 500 metres later in the tournament.

Also in the short-track arena, the women’s relay team of Xandra Velzeboer, Michelle Velzeboer, Selma Poutsma and Zoë Deltrap held off the US and Canada to reach Wednesday’s final.

The Dutch are the defending champions in that event.

On Sunday, medalists Jutta Leerdam and Femke Kok are back in action in the women’s long track 500 metres.
