PSV coach Peter Bosz has said he wants to win “lots more trophies” after signing a contract extension tying him to the club until 2028.

The Eindhoven club are cruising towards their third successive Eredivisie title and 26th overall after extending their lead at the top to 17 points with a 3-0 dismantling of closest rivals Feyenoord at the weekend.

Rumours had been swirling around Bosz’s future after Ronald Koeman announced recently he will step down as Dutch national team coach after this summer’s World Cup finals.

The 62-year-old Bosz would not disclose if his new contract contains an exit clause. “What I put in my contract with PSV is between us,” he told AD.nl.

But the club’s managing director Marcel Brands said there was “no clause, nothing” when questioned by ESPN.

Bosz arrived at PSV in 2023 having never won a trophy in a managerial career spanning more than two decades that took him to Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Olympique Lyonnais.

111 goals

He put the record straight by winning the Eredivisie by a seven-point margin in his first season, when the team scored 111 goals. Last year he retained the title after overhauling a nine-point deficit in the closing weeks to pip Ajax by a single point.

PSV reached the last 16 of the Champions League last year, beating Juventus in the play-off round before losing to Arsenal 9-3 on aggregate. This year their hopes were snuffed out when they lost to Bayern Munich in the final group match.

Director of football Earnest Stewart said: “We’re very satisfied with Peter and have had a great working relationship for the last two and a half seasons.

“He has not only achieved great sporting success, but laid down a clear style of play and a culture at the club that everyone appreciates.”

Bosz said he was not taking the current season for granted, even with a 17-point advantage. “It’s great that I’ve been able to change things, but you don’t become champions with 56 points,” he said.

PSV are taking on Heerenveen in the quarter-finals of the Dutch cup this week, a trophy the club has yet to win under Bosz.

He told the club’s website: “I’m very happy with this contract extension and I hope we’ll win many more trophies. I’m enjoying the fantastic win against Feyenoord and then focusing fully on our cup match against Heerenveen.”
