Dutch rail company NS clocked up a record number of disruptions to services in 2025, according to data from monitor Rijdendetreinen.nl.

The site registered a total of 6,676 incidents, up almost 12% compared to 2024 and 4,000 up from 2011, when records started.

The average extra waiting time for passengers was 167 minutes. The longest disruption was recorded on the track between Maastricht and Luik when no services were available at all from April 8 to April 29 due to a strike by Belgian train staff.

Most of the disruptions took place in January, with 600 taking place during the morning rush hour.

Rotterdam central station topped the list with 900 incidents, closely followed by Schiphol airport and Breda. The majority of disruptions were caused by broken-down trains.
