A pair of All Star sneakers signed by Mark Rutte, lunch with Dilan Yesilgöz and a dinner service presented to former minister Henk Kamp by the Chinese government are among the lots up for grabs at an auction to raise money for The Hague’s branch of the right-wing Liberal party VVD on Friday night.

The aim of the auction, which costs €100 per ticket to attend, is to raise money to help the local party fight the local elections on March 18.

Altijd al een keer in de schoenen van Mark Rutte willen staan? Dat kan! De Haagse VVD organiseert aanstaande vrijdag een campagneveiling met 26 unieke kavels. Van politieke ervaringen tot collector’s item.

In total, attendees can bid on 26 lots, including a variety of tours of parliament and the European parliament offered by MPs, senators and MEPs. The auction is taking place at the Hotel des Indes, a popular hangout for politicians close to the parliamentary complex.

Rutte’s sneakers are described in the online catalogue as “the most famous shoes in The Hague and beyond”.

The VVD is currently the third-biggest party on The Hague’s city council, with six out of 46 seats. Populist party Hart voor Den Haag is by far the biggest, with 12 seats, while D66 has eight.
