Riot police end Africa Cup final trouble in Amsterdam, The Hague

Riot police were drafted in to disperse groups of disappointed fans of the Moroccan national football team in both The Hague and Amsterdam on Sunday night, after a tempestuous Africa Cup final which Senegal won 1-0.
Some 200 people gathered in The Hague’s Schilderswijk district after the game, throwing fireworks at police and passersby, broadcaster NOS reported. In total, eight people were arrested.
In Amsterdam, there was trouble on Plein ’40-’45 in Nieuw-West, according to the Parool.
There too, youngsters threw fireworks and other objects at police, resulting in riot police being called in. Six people were arrested, the paper said. Bus and tram services were also rerouted for a time.
Order in both areas was restored around 1 am.
