Noor and Noah topped the list of most popular names for new babies last year, according to social insurance bank SVB.

In 2025, some 883 boys were given the name Noah, the parents’ favourite for seven consecutive years, while there are now an extra 705 Noors.

Noor superseded Emma, which took the top spot five times during the last 10 years.

Both boys (77) and girls (74) were given the name Robin, with other gender neutral names, such as Charlie (165 girls and 140 boys) and Riley (69 girls and 55 boys) also gaining in popularity.

In Friesland, traditional names Hidde and Lieke remained most popular while in Noord-Holland James and Mila topped the list.

Names expert Gerrit Bloothooft told broadcaster NOS the name Oos is set to become one of this year’s favourites, climbing the list by 54 places. Musa, the Arabic version of Moses, rose 35.

In total, girls were given 12,000 different names in 2025, and boys 11,000. According to Bloothoofd, two-thirds of all names in 2025 were given to just one child.
