Car container ship stranded in Wadden sea after engine fire

A ship transporting 1,200 vehicles, including hundreds of electric cars, has been forced to drop anchor off the Wadden islands after a fire broke out in the engine room.
The fire started shortly after the 149-metre Thames Highway left the German port of Emden on Monday evening on its way to Grimsby, UK, the German Central Command for Maritime Emergencies (CCME) announced.
The ship was anchored between the islands Rottumerplaat and Borkum, on the border between the Netherlands and Germany.
The crew were able to put out the flames and seal off the engine room to prevent it spreading. Specialist firefighters were dispatched by helicopter to deal with any lingering fires and carry out a safety inspection.
The vessel, which is sailing under the Bahamas flag, is now waiting to be towed back to Emden.
The CCME said all 18 crew were safe and unharmed and there were no reports of pollution or leaks from the cargo.
