AZ hammer Ajax 6-0 in KNVB Cup, PSV beat Den Bosch

AZ of Alkmaar crushed Ajax 6-0 at home to knock the Amsterdam side out of the KNVB Cup in the round of 16 stage on Wednesday night.
As a year earlier, AZ proved too strong for Ajax, but where last season’s meeting remained tense until late on, this tie was effectively decided by half-time. AZ led 3-0 at the break and never looked back.
The scoreline equalled Ajax’s biggest-ever loss, previously suffered in a league match away to Feyenoord in 2024.
The line-up for the quarter finals is slowly shaping up. On Tuesday, FC Twente put out FC Utrecht with a 1-2 away win. On Wednesday PSV thrashed Den Bosch 4-1, Telstar beat Almere 3-1 and Go Ahead Eagles managed a win against Heracles on penalties. That game had ended at 2-2 after extra time.
On Thursday night Heerenveen meet RKC Waalwijk and Sparta Rotterdam meet Voldendam. Next Tuesday amateur side De Treffers will take on NEC to complete the line-up for the quarter finals.
