Ukrainian president Zelensky arrives in the Netherlands

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in the Netherlands, where he will address both houses of parliament for the fourth time since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
During his visit, Zelensky will meet caretaker prime minister Dick Schoof, king Willem-Alexander, and caretaker ministers David van Weel (foreign affairs) and Ruben Brekelmans (defence). His last visit to the Netherlands was during the Nato summit in June.
Since the start of the war in February 2022, the Netherlands has provided €13.5 billion in military support to Ukraine and around €3.5 billion in other forms of aid. Last week, the caretaker cabinet announced a further €700 million in support for next year.
Zelensky arrived late on Monday evening under heavy security at Rotterdam airport. The Hague is the latest stop on a tour of European capitals that has included London, Rome, Vatican City and Berlin.
Zelensky is also expected to attend the signing of the founding treaty for an international claims commission for Ukraine at the World Forum in The Hague. The body will assess claims for war-related damage and determine compensation, to be paid from a dedicated fund, once at least 25 countries have joined the agreement.
The visit comes amid uncertainty over continued US support for the war effort. An EU summit later this week will discuss whether the bloc can provide Ukraine with a large loan using frozen Russian central bank assets.
