The most frequently searched term in 2025 in the Netherlands according to Google’s Year in Search was voting aid “stemwijzer”, showing the elections were a major theme, with “ Rob Jetten”, “D66” and “verkiezingen 2025” all making it into the top 10.

In second place was “Charlie Kirk”, the murdered American right-wing activist who, although well-known to young people, had largely passed by a bemused older generation, which then presumably looked him up.

The question “What does 6-7 mean?” came third, although no answer could really be given as to what the hyped cry of six-seven, accompanied by a scale gesture, meant – because it turned out to mean nothing at all.

Renunited Belgian girl band K3 ended up being the most frequent celebrity search, followed by Andy Byron, whose extramarital snog was aired by a kisscam during a Coldplay concert.

Dutch celebrity searches put the recently exonerated of sexual abuse of a minor, Marco Borsato first, looking for details about his case. He also came 9th in the trending news list, but was beaten in that by the popular Labubu doll.
