After several days of cloudy and fairly cold autumn weather, temperatures will edge up slightly this weekend, with Saturday expected to be the driest day, according to weather bureau Weeronline.

Friday had a misty start in plances and will remain grey and drizzly with occasional rain or mist, though coastal areas may see brief brighter spells later.

Saturday will start with widespread cloud and a little rain in the northwest, but it will otherwise be dry with a moderate southerly wind and morning temperatures around 8°.

During the afternoon the sun may break through at times in the south, while most areas will stay overcast. Light rain could reach the west by late afternoon as temperatures hold near 9°.

A band of rain will move from west to east on Saturday night. Sunday will bring a mix of sunshine and showers with a fresh west to south-westerly wind inland and stronger winds along the coast, where gusts will be possible. Maximums will reach 8° or 9°.

Early next week will remain changeable, though conditions should turn drier from Wednesday. Sunshine will be limited, with afternoon temperatures between 8° and 10° and nights near 5°, which is relatively mild for early December.

The KNMI long-term forecast sees little change heading into the second half of the month.
