More Dutch homes switch to gas-free heating, CBS says

The share of gas-free homes in the Netherlands rose to 11.2% in 2024, up from 8.7% two years earlier, according to new figures from national statistics office CBS.
These homes are mainly heated by heat pumps or district heating and no longer rely on a gas-fired central heating boiler. Another 3.7% of homes use hybrid heat pumps, more than double the level in 2022.
The Dutch government pledged to ensure all homes in the country are gas free in 2050, and that 1.5 million homes have been removed from the gas grid by 2030.
New homes are largely gas-free and no new licences to build homes connected to the gas grid have been issued since 2018.
