PSV grabbed a point they barely deserved in Greece with a last-minute goal to keep their hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

Olympiacos defended resolutely after going ahead in the 17th minute when Gelson Martins rammed a shot into the roof of the net to round off a flowing move.

The Greek side frustrated the visitors thereafter with effective pressing while posing a constant danger down the left flank.

But with the clock ticking down, Ricardo Pepi, on as a substitute, equalised with a goal that had a touch of good fortune.

Joey Veerman floated a free-kick in to the area that Jerdy Schouten miscued as he shaped to shoot. But the ball fell invitingly for Pepi just behind him and the American found the bottom corner with an instinctive strike.

The result leaves PSV in provisional 17th place in the Champions League table, but several teams could overtake them when the fourth round of matches concludes on Wednesday.

PSV’s next match is at Liverpool on November 26. Peter Bosz’s side beat the English champions 3-2 when they met in Eindhoven last January, although Liverpool were resting several players, having already qualified for the last 16.
