Trains to Schiphol airport badly disrupted by power line defect

Train services to Schiphol are facing serious disruption for the rest of Wednesday because of a problem with overhead power lines, track operator ProRail has said.
Only around 40% of services to the airport are running after a defective rail spool, which regulates the power supply and the detection of trains.
ProRail initially hoped to repair the problem by 10.15am, but after further inspections said it would have to wait until Wednesday night to fix it. Both Sprinter and Intercity services are affected.
A spokesman for ProRail said: “All train traffic around Schiphol is impacted by this. It is an important part of the rail network that will affect a lot of other locations.”
