Eurostar buys up to 50 double decker trains to boost capacity

International train group Eurostar said on Wednesday it is investing €2 billion in up to 50 new double-decker trains which will operate in the Netherlands and the four other countries the company currently services.
Eurostar said it has confirmed an order for 30 Celestia trains, with an option for a further 20, marking a significant step in its plan to carry 30 million passengers a year.
The increase in capacity could take the number of passengers on the Amsterdam London route to 1080 per service.
The first trains are due to join the fleet in January 2031, with commercial services launching in May 2031.
Eurostar will operate five daily direct services between the Dutch capital and London from mid December.
