Music venue bans smart glasses after upskirting incident

Music venue Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht is officially banning people from wearing smart glasses at events and has already refused entrance to one man who would not take them off
The ban follows an incident in Rotterdam where a man was caught filming women in the toilets using the glasses.
“Filming is okay but this is about social safety,” concert hall director Jeroen Bartelse said. “Glasses fitted with a camera do not belong here because other people do not realise they are being filmed.”
“In principle anyone can walk around wearing these glasses in a public space, but the question is what are they using them for, what are they filming and to what extent does the person being filmed know what is happening?,” digital surveillance and privacy expert Bart Schermers told broadcaster NOS.
If the images are of a sexual nature, or made in dressing rooms, or involve victims of accidents, they constitute a punishable offence. Upskirting, for example, carries a penalty of up to one year in prison or a fine of up to €25,750.
