Feyenoord hold on to top spot with nervy win over Heerenveen

Feyenoord continued their perfect start to the season with a narrow win over Heerenveen in which red cards were the main talking point.

Anis Hadj-Moussa was sent off early in the second half for a tackle on Vasilios Zagaritis, after the VAR review advised referee Robin Hensgens to upgrade his yellow card.

The winger had scored what turned out to be the only goal just before the break when he finished off a flowing move with a low curling shot into the corner.

Heerenveen were unable to capitalise and were themselves reduced to 10 men when substitute Hristiyan Petrov collected his second yellow card for a push on Ayase Ueda.

Thriller in Nijmegen

PSV are level on points, having played a game more, after coming out on top in an eight-goal thriller against NEC.

Ricardo Pepi scored twice on his return from injury, with Ruben van Bommel and Joey Veerman also finding the net to put PSV 4-1 up early in the second half.

But NEC dug deep and came back with a pair of thunderbolts from Youssef El Kachati and Tjaronn Chery. Myron Boadu restored the two-goal cushion with a header from a corner, while NEC were denied a fourth when Chery smacked a penalty against the crossbar.

Ajax managed a 3-1 win at home to PEC Zwolle after fading in the second half. Davy Klaassen and Mika Godts gave them a 2-0 lead at the interval, but PEC replied through Kaj de Rooij and the striker had a header disallowed for offside before Godts made the points safe with his second in the 86th minute.

Mexx Meerdinck glanced in a low cross from Kees Smit to earn AZ the points at Heracles, who are bottom of the team with no points from their first five matches.

Telstar beaten

Telstar were unable to repeat their heroics of last week at PSV as Maka Aïko came off the bench to score two late goals for Fortuna Sittard, after Jochem Rittmeester van de Kamp had equalised for Telstar at the end of the first half.

Utrecht dropped to sixth following a 1-0 home defeat to Groningen, whose only goal by Marco Rente was confirmed by a VAR review after the referee initially ruled out his header for offside.

Twente Enschede, who sacked Joseph Oosting in midweek, looked to have bagged their second win of the season when Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored a penalty in the 87th minute against NAC Breda, but Raul Paula had the last word with a flicked volley.

Go Ahead Eagles notched up their first win of the season with three goals in the first half against Volendam, while Ayoub Oufkir bundled in a winner in injury time for Sparta to win the derby at Excelsior.
