Tourists spent €111.2 billion in the Netherlands in 2024, nearly €6 billion more than the previous year, the national statistics agency CBS said on Wednesday.

Of that total, around €67 billion was spent by Dutch tourists travelling within the country rather than by visitors from abroad. Tourism expenditure includes all spending before, during and after a trip, including transport and accommodation.

The year 2023 was the first full year after coronavirus restrictions were lifted, but 2019 still remains the record year for tourism spending. Tourism now accounts for 4% of the Dutch economy, up 0.1 percentage point on 2023 but still below pre-coronavirus levels.

The strongest growth was recorded in accommodation and food services, aviation, travel agencies and travel services. Employment in the sector has also risen, though it remains below 2019, the CBS said.
