Crash causes rush-hour gridlock on A2 near Utrecht

The A2 was closed north of Utrecht for several hours on Tuesday morning following a crash involving a car and a trailer.
The collision happened on the hard shoulder near Breukelen just after 5.30am, RTV Utrecht reported. One person was injured, but police did not give further details.
The motorway had to be closed in both directions because of debris scattered across the carriageways. One lane was opened at around 7.30am in the Utrecht direction, leading to tailbacks of over an hour.
Drivers were initially diverted via the A1, A9 and A27 towards Hilversum, but the alternative routes also became heavily congested.
