Staff shortage grounds flights at Eindhoven Airport

Flights into and out of Eindhoven Airport have been suspended multiple times due to a shortage of air traffic controllers, causing delays.

According to AD.nl, hundreds of passengers at Eindhoven Airport were delayed on Wednesday morning.

Air traffic was suspended several times during the day to allow staff to take breaks. No aircraft were able to take off between 9am and 10.30am.

The problem lies with staff at the military air traffic control at Schiphol-Oost, which handles air traffic outside a 30-kilometre radius around Eindhoven.

Eindhoven Airport is the operator of the Eindhoven Airbase military airfield, where military air traffic control is responsible for all air traffic.

Earlier this year, military air traffic controllers warned that staff shortage posed a serious risk to aviation safety in the Netherlands.
