Thursday night wins for AZ Alkmaar and FC Utrecht mean there will be six Dutch football clubs in European competition this season – for the first time since 2008.

AZ secured a convincing 4-0 home victory against Levski Sofia, having already won the away leg 2-0, and will now move on to the next stage of the Conference League.

Utrecht drew 0-0 at home against Zrinjski Mostar but advanced in the Europa League thanks to last week’s 2-0 away win.

PSV Eindhoven and Ajax, both competing in the Champions League, face a tough line-up of opponents in the opening stage following Thursday’s draw. Each club will play eight matches, with PSV meeting Bayern München at home and Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen away.

Ajax’s group includes Inter, Benfica and Galatasaray at home, with Chelsea away.

Feyenoord (Europa League) and Go Ahead Eagles (Europa League) complete the Dutch line-up in Europe this season. The draw for the Europa and Conference Leagues takes place later on Friday.

For Deventer’s Go Ahead Eagles, it is a rare appearance on the European stage. They made the cut thanks to their victory in last season’s KNVB Cup.
