Police have found a knife and a mobile phone in their investigation into the killing of 17-year-old Lisa, who was attacked last week on her way home from a night out in Amsterdam, broadcaster NOS reported on Tuesday.

The public prosecution department confirmed the finds, NOS said. They were made close to the refugee centre where the suspect may have lived.

The department has refused to say whether the suspect, who is thought to be 22, was living at the location on the Hogehilweg in the south-east of the city.

Lisa was found dead in Duivendrecht last week and the suspect was arrested a couple of days later. He is also suspected of rape and possibly another sexual assault.

Her killing has led to a storm of protest and a crowdfunding campaign to raise awareness about women’s right to safety at night generated more than €400,000 in its first 24 hours.

The adverts, with the slogans wij eisen de nacht op (“reclaim the night”) and laat vrouwen veilig thuiskomen (“let women get home safely”), have since been displayed at railway stations and prominent sites in cites across the Netherlands.

Other protests are also being planned.
