The number of shops selling second-hand clothing has gone up significantly in the last 12 years, chamber of commerce figures quoted by Nu.nl have shown.

In 2013, some 516 shops sold vintage togs, compared to 723 in July of this year. Noord-Holland has the most vintage clothing shops with 155, followed by Zuid-Holland with 124. Flevoland is at the bottom of the list, with just 5.

The number of charity shops, or Kringloopwinkels, showed a slight decline, from 2,000 in 2017 to 1,813 at the beginning of 2025.

Umbrella organisation Kringloop Nederland said the number of shops is “stabilising”. “Our members are the bigger shops and we don’t see a decline in those,” a spokesman told Nu.nl.

According to the chamber of commerce, Kringloopwinkels, which are usually further out, are now appearing at prime locations in city centres to access a wider clientele.
