Dutch soldiers to be deployed on mission to Poland in December

The Netherlands will send 300 soldiers with air defence and anti-drone systems to Poland, caretaker defence minister Ruben Brekelmans has said.
The deployment will begin in December to protect the delivery of military equipment to Ukraine from Russian attacks.
“We are doing this to protect NATO’s eastern flank, an important military hub for defending Ukraine and deterring and further discouraging the Russians,” Brekelmans told NOS.
He stressed that the troops will be operating from Poland and the Netherlands will not have boots on the ground in Ukraine.
The Dutch will be sending two of their three Patriot missile systems to Poland as well, leaving the country with one on Dutch soil.
From September, Dutch F-35 fighters will monitor NATO airspace in Poland, together with their Norwegian counterparts.
The deployment will last until at least May 2026.
