Demonstration in Amsterdam against conflict in Gaza

Around 1,500 people protested the war in Gaza on Saturday, marching from Amsterdam’s Dam Square to Museumplein.

During the protest, the National Monument was defaced with graffiti reading “Never again is now.” According to the police, the 24-year-old perpetrator was arrested.

Ahead of the march, a ceremony was held for the Palestinian journalists killed last week in Gaza. Attendees observed a minute of silence and laid out five replica coffins to commemorate the five Al Jazeera journalists who died.

The city had banned the demonstration from taking place, but a court ruled on Friday the protest could go ahead.
