ChristenUnie MPs hope to retain seats as top election candidates

The ChristenUnie’s three members of parliament will all seek re-election as the top candidates on the party’s list for the October 29 election.
Mirjam Bikker, who has been party leader since taking over from Gert-Jan Seegers in 2023, will lead the list, followed by Peter Grinwis and Don Ceder.
Fourth place is taken by Alwin te Rietstap, an alderman from Hardenberg, Overijssel, while the fifth-ranked candidate is Joëlle Gooijer-Medema from Delft.
The ChristenUnie was the smallest party in two successive cabinets from 2017 until 2023, when a row with the largest party, the VVD, over immigration triggered the collapse of the government and the resignation of prime minister Mark Rutte.
It won five seats at four successive elections between 2010 and 2021, but lost two of its MPs in November 2023 and is currently polling at around 2.5%, equivalent to three seats.
