Most voters, including supporters of far-right party PVV, are pleased that Geert Wilders has pulled out of the cabinet, according to a new opinion poll by current affairs show Een Vandaag.

Hardly any voters consider the cabinet to have been a success, and right-wing voters in particular have lost more faith in politics, the survey of more than 16,000 people shows. The poll was carried out on Tuesday, after Wilders withdrew his support for the four-party coalition.

Around 65% of PVV voters say they are positive about Wilders’ decision and are most likely to hold NSC leader Nicolien van Vroonhoven responsible for the lack of progress made by the cabinet, which was in power for 11 months.

However, almost one in three PVV voters are opposed to the decision, saying it is unlikely the PVV will be given another opportunity to govern.

More than half of VVD voters are angry about the collapse of the coalition, while 41% are pleased, accusing the PVV of infighting and amateurism.

Voters gave the cabinet a score of 3.6 out of 10, and just one in 10 said it had achieved anything positive. Only 16% of voters would like the four parties to try again.

The most recent opinion polls on voting intentions put the PVV, VVD and the GroenLinks-PvdA alliance all on around 20% of the vote, or about 30 seats. The PVV won 37 seats, or 25% of the vote, in the 2023 general election.

The latest Peilingwijzer, an amalgam of the two main Dutch opinion polls, puts the CDA in fourth place with up to 20 seats and D66 in fifth with up to 12.

Both the BBB and NSC are facing a near wipe-out compared to their current parliamentary presence, with fewer than two to four and one to three seats respectively.
