Tuesday’s strike by railway workers has led to the cancellation of all services in Noord-Holland, Flevoland, Gelderland and parts of Overijssel, as well as some international services, state-owned railway operator NS has confirmed.

Services to Schiphol airport have also been reduced to four per hour in both directions from Amsterdam’s central station, NS said.

Eurocity Direct, IC Berlijn, Eurostar services to London and Nightjet trains have also been cancelled, while Eurocity, Eurostar Paris and ICE will run fewer services. Trains to the Netherlands from London will stop in Brussels.

Travellers are being advised to check nsinternational.com for more information about international services.

National services in the rest of the country are not affected by the strike, but trains are expected to be busier than usual and there may be some changes to services, NS said.

The strike was called by the two biggest railway unions after talks with NS on a two-year pay deal broke down again on Monday.

The unions are calling for a rise of around 7% a year to offset the impact of inflation, while NS is offering 3.25% in 2025 and 2.75% in 2026.

“The NS pay and conditions deal is now 5% behind inflation,” the FNV trade union federation said. The unions are also calling for early retirement schemes for staff doing physically demanding work.
